Anticipating how emotionally difficult it could be making funeral decisions at the time of a loved one's passing, I reached out to Schmid Funeral Home a few years ago to make pre-arrangements for my Mother. Upon losing our Mother this past week, I immediately contacted Tim at Schmid. The professionalism, guidance, compassion, and support received from Tim, and staff, from the obituary, selection of music, memorial cards, visitation, and graveside service was amazing. Our family wishes to thank Tim, and staff, for your kind support through this difficult time.

I absolutely recommend Schmid Funeral home. My brother in law recently passed away very unexpectedly he was 47. When you are faced with such grief and you have no idea how to proceed with anything it’s so very nice to have someone with the knowledge to help guide you. We didn’t do all the traditional things we had his casket specially made by the Amish and we picked it up and deliver it to the funeral home and the procession to the cemetery was led by his dump truck that he drove at work every day followed by his tractor pulling his hay wagon carrying his casket. With all of these unusual requests we were always met with accommodation and how they could help us to have the funeral exactly how we wanted it to be. We had Tim’s cell number and text/talked to him several times throughout the entire process. Tim has continued to help guide my sister in law several times over the past few weeks as she has had to deal with several legal issues concerning the death. When you are facing one of the hardest things in life it’s nice to have the kindest and most knowledgeable people to help you every step of the way.

... I lost my dad in May 29, 1996. This day is probably my a day most of My. Washington remembers for a very different reason. While I was at Nortons downtown with my father in his last moments, my hometown was being ripped apart by a horrible tornado. my father had hand written before he lost the ability to do so, he wanted to be at Schmid Funeral Home. My mom was devastated, noone expects to have your husband passed at 48, and be a widow at 46. We headed to Schmid as a group in several cars the morning after dad passed. As if losing him wasn't enough, seeing the devastation in Mt. Washington sure didn't help. I had to lead the way, as mom asked. She said she knew she just couldn't speak the words to the many police, firemen, and various first responders we would encounter. She was right. I had to speak those horrid words my father died last night and we have to get to the funeral home where his body is please, and tell them which cars to let pass. They were all very nice but I remember being told Schmid had been damaged by the tornado too. We got there finally and Mark helped us through the whole process. We had to pick a different place for the service due to the damage from the tornado. When you lose a loved one it's hard enough, throw in a natural disasters that damages the funeral home too and it's multiplied, not to mention getting to the cemetery June 1. I can say that Mark and everyone involved honestly made it so easy. The members of the Air Force showed up to salute and show their respects to my dad. The flag was presented to my brother perfectly who then knelt in front of our mom and said the most beautiful words any son could say to a mother and he presented it to our mom. Mark took the absolutely most horrible day of my life ever to this very day, and made it a beautiful, honorable, tribute to my father. He did so with no stress to my mom at all, he did as my brother and I requested by bringing things to us, not her. Mark greeted everyone. When all these men I didn't even know from the railroad came in who knew my dad worked with him for years, Mark got me, and introduced me to them. I'll always treasure that. They told me amazing stories of my dad. Mark was so busy the whole time. The day of dad's funeral he did something that showed me just how much he paid attention to the families. He came to me and said he didn't mean to pry and didn't want to offend me., and he said but I've heard so many stories about how close you were to your dad. I know your being strong for your mom, and I know your hurt and sad, and You don't physically look it at all. But you just have this glow. Are you pregnant? I laughed and said yes. The only ones who knew were the man I was married to then, my kids and my dad. I told my mom later that day. I think it's proof though that Schmid really pays attention. December that year we got an invitation to a ceremony. So we went and they had a small memorial ceremony for all those who they had funerals for that year. We were given an ornament with Dad's name on it. I will never forget all they did for my family and the honor respect and love shown to us.

Scott Fahl I think Schmid Funeral home in my opinion is the best around. Mark and his staff are pleasant and very helpful in all areas. They really know how to go the extra mile for families that have lost a love one. The facilities are clean and very well maintained. I have attended several funerals at Schmid in my 8 years pastoring in Mt. Washington and each time I have seen them do more than any other funeral home I have been at. Keep up the good work and may God bless you!!!
